AS ONE. New Action for Frankfurt

"There is no grace that could be based solely on physical qualities; only the rhythm of the soul, with which the body vibrates, is the true source of grace." — F. Wildung, Olympiade Magazine no. 2, August 1924

In the summer of 1925, trains from across Europe arrived in Frankfurt, carrying thousands of workers—bodies prepared to exercise, to perform, to move together. As part of the 100th Anniversary, Public Movement engages with the premise of the first Workers' Olympics—a vision of a society striving for equality, post-national companionship, and peace. It was—and remains—a call for men and women to embody a cultural and political message. How do these values manifest physically? How can they be practiced in current times?

As One is both a homage and an inquiry—a public exercise taking place in real time, an invitation to commemorate while practicing doubt. The performance emerges from the need to come together: to train to be a flexible society with acrobatic minds, agile, balanced, and primed for the struggles ahead. During the performance six Public Movement members will navigate the delicate intersections of strength and vulnerability, discipline and obedience, play and rivalry, ideology and its dissemination through the body.

"As One. New Action for Frankfurt" is a production by Public Movement and Künstler*innenhaus Mousonturm. Supported by the German Federal Cultural Foundation funded by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media, the Kulturfonds Frankfurt RheinMain, Artis, the Department of International Affairs of the City of Frankfurt am Main and f.f.m - Freunde und Förderer des Mousonturm e.V. The research was supported by a grant from the DAAD, made possible by the Berliner Künstlerprogramm. The rehearsals were supported by the Tel Aviv Museum of Art.
