Civil Fast

24 Hours of fasting, feasting, performance, press party, celebrations and rituals at the city square.

The action first took place at the Freedom Square (Davidka) in Jerusalem.

on 27 December 2012, the 2nd anniversary of the self-immolation of Muhamad Buazizi in Tunis, the event that started of the wave revolutions called "The Arab Spring" and changed the global political map.
Starting at sundown on the 27th and till sundown 28th, Public Movement added a new civil fast to the calender.
The public was invited to join the fast, a 24 hours action centered around a contentious ceremony that can be repeated over and over again in city squares and public spaces worldwide. Civil Fast is a day of celebration and mourning over the new/old political possibilities that erupts from the citizens and can enrapture the world. In this action, Public Movement praise self harm which is headed away in prisons and synagogues, and celebrated hunger and solidarity to create a choreography of punishment and nurture, self starvation and ideological passion, forgiveness over past sins and ravishing of future sins.
It's a spectacle of Taanit which includes congregating at the city square, press party, performance, prayer, dance, breaking-fast dinner, fast, fire lighting and medical care.
